Tightening of planning requirements for basements in London

As London’s local planning authorities adopt more rigorous appraisal processes for basement planning applications, London Basement continues to help its clients through the requirement of the different boroughs; London Borough of Camden and Royal Kensington and Chelsea have the most extensive requirements for planning purposes.

Camden requires a Basement Impact Assessment, which combines consideration of surface and groundwater conditions, with geotechnical analysis into a comprehensive review of the basement works. This review ensures that the proposed works have been adequately appraised and planned; including detailed design by specialists to minimise ground movements arising from the basement development and any impact on adjoining or neighbouring properties.

Royal Kensington and Chelsea are currently undertaking a review of its policy towards basements.

London Basement’s track record from the design and build of over 1,000 basements provides unrivalled experience with planning requirements across London.

Our service also includes the submission of the construction traffic management plan and basement construction management plan or method statements.

London Basement is now assisting architects aswell as homeowners with this service and we continue to monitor the new requirements being added by the local authorities across London.
